have looked at loc on zam. nada. waited, thought timed, nope. Came back different day, nooooo! so what am I missing? Cant seem to start the quest and my ogre is way too ugly to get it in Q.

 On the Origins of Shadowed Men Trophy: The Pendulum |
Lore and Legend quests are started by examining a special book or examining the first body part you find for that race. Either way, you will not get auto updates until you have the quest. The book for this Lore and Legend quest is "On the Origins of Shadowed Men". This book can be found is a timed triggered item at 4.39, 7.3, -115.52 upstairs in the Academy in North Freeport or at 711.33, 42.19, 108.53 in the Mage's Tower (red teleportal) in South Qeynos..
The quest requires you to kill Shadowmen for the auto-updates and body parts (which must be examined). Body parts are also tradeable, so check the broker!

When you have found and/or examined the last part the quest will auto-complete and you will receive:
- On the Origins of Shadowed Men - A book you can place in your home.
- Trophy: The Pendulum - A trophy to hang on the wall of your house
- Your Master Strike, Smite or Rage skill will now affect Shadowmen.
The reward for this quest is a furniture version of the book and a trophy which can be placed inside of your house.

Do yerself a favor and check for all shadowman drops at Brokers first, not like me wasting 6h + on trying to get 2 last 2 drops that were baughtable fer 3 quid each :p

Tuluvar The people who say you have to be level 30 to get the quest are mistaken.

Lore and Legend quests are not like other quests. If you can reach the book, you can get the quest, and if you can find opponents low enuff for you to kill you can finish it. The reccomended level has more to do with the level you SHOULD do it at, and in this case that level was higher before Darklight Wood was released. Now it is easier to get and do at a lower level. I would estimate that the new recc. level for this quest should probably be 18.

I did the updates on this today, it took me about half hour total in Nek running between two spawn points.
THere are various rumours on my server that you HAVE to get the spirit first, and that you have to delete the quest and start again if you don't, and also that only green cons and higher will drop the tagged items. Both are def NOT true. Finally finished the quest, and the spirit was the last tagged item, and it came from a grey mob, so just keep plugging away, and you'll get there in the end :)
This is actually a level 30 quest, not level 20. You can't even pick up the book til you hit 30 (believe me i tried MANY times) which is pretty pants, cause by then some of the shadowed men are greyed out and you don't get xps if you want to finish quest :( Oh, and the voices from beyond quest you def can do before 30 - I finished that at about 25, and have had more spare transference directives that you can shake a stick at

"a shadowman spirit" (the update) is by far the slowest to actually obtain. Going at 100+ kills and still no update.

The book to start the quest is ONLY available when you're lvl 30 and over.

Anyone know the spawn timer of the trigger for this and what the actual required level is to be able to get it?

Is there, or is there not, a level req to pick up the book for this quest? I've been trying since level 25 (am 28 now) and have never been able to get the book. The level reqs have been removed for all language quests, they're totally unrelated to the lore and legend quests... Anyone know the answer?

Is this (Book) quest bugged in some way? Have repeatly gone back to NFP to collect book to learn the lore,(from lv 20. am now lv 26) nothing there. Have done the quest Voices from Beyond (did that at lv 23) collected some lore items from the shadowed men, but can't use till get this stupid book.

you dont need to be lvl 36 to start as i just started voices of beyond at 27

Shadowed Men also drop a Transferance Directive that starts the Voices from Beyond quest that allows you to learn the Shadowed Man language. You have to be 36th lvl to start it though. Not sure about lvl yet as I am just 35.

Okay, I completed this Lore & Legend this evening.
Please note: This quest is BUGGED.
You cannot loot from these mobs once they have died. What you have to do is kill each one of them individually and as soon as one of them is about to go down, start double-clicking on him and the moment he dies, you can loot his corpse before he drops. This is the ONLY WAY you will be able to loot these mobs until they have fixed this bug.
Important tips:
a) Once you get the quest go to Nektulos Forest and follow the Hidden Beach Path to leave the beach.
b) Although there are at least 3 spawn points for Shadowed Men in Nektulos that I know of, I only stuck to 2 as these are near to eachother and once you've cleared one of them, you can very quickly go to the other.
c) First spawn point is as you leave the beach into Nektulos Forest via the Path. Follow the left wall (west) and very quickly you will reach the first spawn point (Loc: +690.24, -3.81, -512.79).
d)Take these mobs down, then move to the other spawn point: Basically, go back to the path where you came from and pretend you are arriving from the beach. Follow the path as you would. Within a couple of minutes you will reach a long bend that veers off to the right. Look to the LEFT and you will see a sort of passage with a "Spikey Shrine" at the entrance to it. There's a level 23 Dragoon Patrolman directly behind it, but if you're lvl 30, you have nothing to worry about. This is the Second Spawn point(Loc +140,31, -3.52, -584.06).
e) Kill the mobs here and then go back to the first spawn point. Rinse and repeat.
f) You will only have to wait no more than a minute or two between spawns.
g) The only drop that took me forever to get was the "Shadowman Aspect of Shadow". You have been warned....
h) The Trophy you get ant the end is called "The Pendulum" and looks like a huge wooden walking stick, and looks wicked on your wall as it's quite un-common. The Book you get to place in your room is the usual "On the Origins of the Shadowed Men" yada yada.

This can also be found in South Qeynos, in the library of the Mage Tower for good-aligned races.
I believe because the required level for this is actually 30 to pick it up.
