The Watcher came alive at 7:10am server time and began cleaning the castle. I was the only person in the zone and I am level 22, so he was completely grey to me. I wasn't anywhere near him when he spawned, in fact I was out back by the beach. Therefore, level and distance do not appear to be relevant. I'm betting he either spawns at 7am server or he doesn't. Probably random chance each day.

creaked to life at 6.00am - I didn't kill any mobs at all, took him down with a 18 Conjurer very easily.

Dropped:

Basalt Hatchet - Legendary Axe - level 10

1 hand slashing

+4 Agi +4 Str

9.4 rating

useable by all scouts and fighters, except monks/bruisers

I camped the Basalt Watcher yesterday for three full Norrath days. I was particularly watchful at local dawn and dusk, when the big red message pops that the castle is switching over either to pirates or undead, but the statue never moved.

I suspect that the moons must be in the right alignment perhaps - yesterday none of Norrath's moons was in my sky, or at least what I could see from my vantage behind the Basalt Watcher. The last time I saw him move though, the broken moon was high overhead.

It may also be that certain mobs need to be killed first in some sort of quiet ring event. Not sure what that would be. I tried slaughtering everything in the ruins to no avail.

Hmm, food for thought anyway.

Spawned and took him out. Lvl 13 heroic ^^^(Changed after the zones revamp)(green to a 19 monk with decent gear). He was a pushover really :P. His attacking is crappy and I parried it all... He sometimes casts spells that do roughly around 100 damage, rarely tho, making him easy to solo. Droped "Eyes of the Watcher" Treasured Attuneable Lore +4 sta +4 int + vs mental Slot Ears Weight 0.5 Level 10...
Seems to turn attackable nowadays only in the daytime nearing night. GL to anyone who wishes to kill him.

Ok I was on my main(lvl 40 conjuror at the time)and saw it roming around so i killed it becouse that was the first time ever i saw it moving.clearing the area,wating for a right time has nothing to do with it. It might be scertain lvl someone is nere it to activate it. but other than that nothing works.

This guy wakes up between 6:30 am norrath time and despawns just before 7 am norrath time.

Major undercon,he is very hard, on my lvl 15 troub he was hitting me for 90-100, and my attacks were resisted most of the time, :) always wondered if this mofo moved.

Yes, like the previous post, he is only active when a message pops up that says he is has awoken to cleanse the castle. Then you have to hit him in between when he is slaughtering stuff. He was 13^^^ to me. As a 16 warlock I was one shot away from soloing him, but he managed to kill me just before my spell finished casting. There is no other trick to making him targetable, so disregard any other ignorant or circumstantial posts.

Just killed him today on accident. The message came up and said that he has come to life to clense the castle. Well anyway, i (lvl 19 fury) went in and with a little help killed him. he dropped The Basalt Axe (legendary). Pretty nice drop.

I have a level 14 Ranger and fight near the Watcher alot. I've seen him alive only once when I was lvl 11 and by pure accident. Was a quick death :) I have noticed that "sometimes" you can target him and his head will follow you around. Then sometimes he's just pure statue. I dont know yet what "fully" awakens him, however the head movement comes alot more often when there are many players around.

15 ^^^. He spawns if you have a Scout type in your group. You need a group of 3 people or more. He is a gargoyle. He has A LOT OF DEFENCE AND HEALTH but VERY little attack. He went down easy. Took awhile though LOL

Found this guy up the other night, I have no clue if he was active or not when I came in the zone. Was 18 Summoner when I saw him, decided to log in my Mystic to heal pet and sent the pet in (Tellurian Recruit ad3). Took 3 tries to kill him, but he finally went down. For me he dropped spell book fragment, Mind Blast (Master 1), and Gloomwater Armguards [50 mit; +2 str, +2 int, 8 health, 5 power; Fighter(6), Priest/Scout(10)]

Yes, must be level based. I was in there on a level 7 priest, grouped with another level 7 priest, when the guy decided to wake up and take us out. I have never seen him wake up on my mid-level pally who has spent a lot of time in the area.

This guy just spawned a few minutes ago, and I went to fight him with my 22 Templar.

Had all crafted and imbued armor, weapon, shield (which was a rare one) plus jewelery (not imbued).

It was a -long- fight, but I did kill him eventually. He dropped an Artisan Leather Armor Volume 7 tradeskill book, one [a spellbook fragment] (Quest-starter for the Lost Spellbook Fragments-quest) and a Spiderfur tunic (fighter 6 or priest/scout 10 requirement). 54 mitigation, +1 agi, +3 str, +6 health and +5 power. He's not a caster, or at least didn't cast any spells that I noticed, so as long as you can take a few hits and still stand you should be able to take him out. Level 15 triple arrow up heroic.

I wake him up with my alt. lv 13 Crus. Seems when I'm killing Elemental near him he wakes and kills me. I have never woke him with other then my Crus.

Im a lvl 15 sorcerer and ive spent a while fighting in the forest ruins near the basalt watcher to c if it would spawn but it never did... ive seen it alive 3 times but it was alive be4 i got there i thought it would spawn on a certain day butit was completely random when it spawned but if any1 know the quest associated with it plz tell me

not quite, but close. i am lvl 11, and after killing a few things here and there, i noticed the huge targeting ring engulf me from behind. i dongded most the attacts, but one hit nearly killed me i ran, and lived. logged to my lvl 15 shammy, and got a 14 War to help. we nearly killed him when it respawned as the statue. and couldnt get it to spawn since

He was on the balcony and I stood next to him hailing him and nothing so I tried to attack and it said "You can not attack this creature." What gives?

This monster spawns based on level I believe, time of day I don't know. I've taken my level 40s through when no one was on and cleared the castle, it did not spawn all day. When I played my alt with friends around level 15 it did spawn constantly. Whether you have to be around that general level AND kill the mobs I don't know. There were a few people in there, at the time the mobs were still ^^. good xp ground. So maybe a combination of them killing it and level 15s being near it to trigger is a possibility. I doubt it though, somethings missing. No one knows how it spawns and tere are many servers of people around level 15 killing in there and no one knows for sure. hope that helps =D . Btw that symbol on his right breast, I read a post about someone talking about it. Nothing of that nature in whole zone, I looked pretty thouroughly =)

This monster does NOT spawn by killing all of the elementals. I've had groups killing elementals all the time. The whole level 15 thing is a hint, I had one group everyone was near level 15, it was day time from what I remember, and he spawned constantly. I have no idea what this means though

I went past him a number of times, while I was level 15, and had no response. He's on the second floor balcony in the Fortress...on the way to the Mage Tower. I've read that he comes to life at night but haven't stuck around to find out.

The Basalt Watcher becomes aggressive to anyone at level 15. I had no problems with him, until I hit level 15, then ran by him to go get one of my shards, he attacked me.
